Devotion Day #11: Rest (The presence of God)
One thing I’ve found to be consistent in the presence of the Lord is rest. Have you been resting?
The latter part of Matthew 11:29 says, “you will find rest for your souls”. This rest is not a physical rest but a spiritual rest. It’s an impartation of the peace of God that surpasses all understanding that invades a persons life, in any and every circumstance(Phil 4:6-7). Being in the presence of God releases us into the rest of God.
Resting in the hope of Jesus is essential to trusting the will of God for our lives. I’m reminded of the story when the disciples were on a boat and found themselves in the midst of a storm. They went to look for Jesus and He was sleeping. A peaceful rest was upon Him. This tells us that He knew how to enter into the needed spiritual rest no matter what economical, health, family, work, life issues or literal storms were coming at Him.
We all should daily make a conscious effort to enter into the rest of the Lord. I encourage you to let go of "Spiritual Sleep Apnea" that comes in the form of the cares of this world, fear of failure and the unknown. Position yourself in a place of peaceful rest in the boat such as Jesus did. The blessedness is that Jesus is the boat. You can rest in the arms of your savior, knowing He has everything including you in His hands, in His reach and in His control.
-My presence shall go with thee and I will give thee rest. Exodus 33:14
Father, your presence is with me, so I’m going to rest in you today. I will trust you with my emotions, heart, and life. Help me not to forget that you created all things and see all things, therefore you know my life, problems and every solution to them. I declare anxiety shall not be by portion. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
