Devotion Day #13: Where the Spirit of the Lord is... (The presence of God)
Have you experienced true freedom in Christ? The fearless freedom God has for you? Where His will and ability is placed above everything?
I like to think of the story of Daniel in the lion’s dens. He was held captive for His uncompromising relationship with the Lord, but was free in the spirit because He went into the lions den with a sure mentality in who God was (Dan 6:16). Then there’s also Shadrach, Meshaq and Abednego, who when faced with threats of being thrown in a fiery furnace made it known, “If you decide to throw us into the furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us out of the furnace and out of your hand. But even if He doesn’t, we will not serve your God’s” (see Dan 3).
This is what I like to call sure freedom. Absolute freedom. Freedom from anything that would try to intimidate you to go against the will of God and what you know to be true. The world is constantly trying to dim our light, silence us and give offers, decrees and mandates to compromise. How have you faced situations as such? Are you walking in the sure freedom that causes you to stand?
Only the Spirit of God and being in His presence daily can give us this true freedom. The stance of freedom where even in the worst of the worst sirtuations our total trust is in His sovereignty, no matter what happens. I love when Jesus spoke of Himself saying, “If the son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed” (Jn 8:36). That word indeed implies in totality. Which includes any and everything that could keep us from being who God has called us to be. Whether it’s the enemy speaking to your mind. Whether it’s insecurity or past hurt that has caused you to believe no one will be there for you even in the worst of times. Whatever you personally may be facing, Jesus came to relieve you from those strongholds. He has your has your back contrary to what the enemy says.
You’re no different from Daniel, Shadrach, Meshaq and Abednego who were free in the spirit. You’re a child of God, that same fearless freedom can be in operation in your life also. As they gave no authority to the strongholds that tried to bind them. You can too. Notice I said “Tried”, because each stronghold was presented to them to place fear and lack of trust in God in their hearts. But they had a made up mind. They weren’t going to give the stronghold power to dictate their view of the power of God. They knew that God could defeat any and every stronghold. They knew He could come through. They were sure of these things because they knew who God was and rested in His presence.
Their natural stronghold, represents what may be your spiritual fiery furnace or lion’s den. So, would you like to walk in this sure, absolute, fearless freedom they had? There’s a fearless freedom that lies in the presence of God for you. I encourage you to seek God, spend time with Him to get to know His ways and you’ll find that He’s committed to never failing you. This is where fearless freedom begins, in the presence of God.
–-Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is liberty 2Cor 3:17
Lord, show me how to be free indeed. Teach me the way to fearlessly live for you, no matter what’s at stake. I sincerely desire to live uncompromising before you so I may bring glory to your name.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
