Devotion Day #5 Why Study God’s Word? (Being Built by the Word of God)
As followers of Jesus the Word of God is our blueprint and lifeline (Matt 4:4). I love 2Tim 2:15, “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” In this verse we receive encouragement to study the Word of God. Not as a religious thing or something to check off of our daily checklist. But as something we do with purpose, intent and desire. In this verse we’re also given a clear depiction of that purpose and intent of why we should study, which is because we are workmen for the Lord and carrying the word of God is one of our normal assignments. Carrying it with accuracy so we wont be ashamed, to be exact.
When we study God’s word and live it, we position ourselves and those around us for a shift. A great shift at any moment. What do I mean by that? Well, as you’re in the word, letting it minister to you, you get stronger and grow in faith. Rom 10:17 says, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” If the word of God can have an affect as such on you. What could it do for those around you? Just one verse could change the life of someone you encounter. Their life could then go on to change someone else’s for the Glory of God.
Isn’t that awesome?
Studying God’s word positions us in a place of readiness. Ready to be used by God, and ready for the Lord to continue to take us into new growth spurts in Him.
Father, You are awesome. Your word is awesome. I desire to be a vessel for you, help me to set aside time to study to show myself approved. When I go to spend time with you in your word, allow the Holy Spirit to be right there teaching me. I want to receive all that your word has for me.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
