Today’s devotional is the last devotion on Point #2 “Being Built by the Word of God” I pray you have been challenged and blessed by both points #1 and #2 thus far. Let’s get right into today’s devotion.
Devotion Day #7: Being transformed by God’s word (Being Built by the Word of God):
I’ve noticed that many people are afraid of change and transformation. Often times many experience this in business, relationships, marriages, etc; they feel more comfortable with the old instead of with the new. So this causes them to just sit in the old and be OK with things. This often causes them to miss out on opportunities on their job, in relationships and whatever areas they are applying this atitude toward.
With some, their spiritual life may even reflect this? Have you been afraid to allow God to make you new and take you into the new? When we first come to Jesus we come into God’s family one way, but as time passes we begin to see old things fall off (2Cor 5:17). Or at least that’s the direction God is nudging us all toward. The Lord is so gracious to continuously work with His people. Because of His ongoing love for us He is making us new on an ongoing basis. Who you were last month in the Lord may not be who you are today. God is constantly growing us. Or at least He is asking to grow us in this way. We have free will to either grow or stay the same. This growth is a transformation that takes place as we continuously read and understand God’s word and allow it to be the final authority over our thoughts, actions and speech. Character is changed when we let the Holy Spirit in. When we give up our rights and allow the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us by the word of God.
The word of God is living and active, which means it can actually live in us, transform us and bear through us the fruit of that transformation. Jesus Himself is the Living Word. What happens when the Living Word who is active lives inside of us in the person of the Holy Spirit? Our lives change. Our convictions and sensitivity to sin changes. We daily become the new creature in 2 Corinthians 5:17 that God desires us to be, looking more like Jesus.
I challenge you this season to let the Holy Spirit in. Don’t shy away from what the Lord desires to do, even though it’s new to you. It's not new to God. Embrace the change He is leading you toward and trust that He has you in the palm of His hand.
Lord, I desire to be transformed by your word. I don’t want to just read and hear it but I want to be so engulfed in it and you that I do what your word says also. Lord, let your word actively discern and correct me into who you have called me to be. Examine all that I do and transform all that doesn’t please you. No matter what it is, I give you access to transform and purify me in thought, word, deed, and lifestyle.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
